Edsa Shangri-La, Manila teams with the Perkins twins, 19-year-old twin brothers Jesse and Christian, for the Perkins Twins Tennis Academy (PTTA) slated this summer. The teenage Grand Prix Doubles Champions from California, U.S.A., will hold a series of clinics and tutorials open to all ages at the hotel’s premier outdoor tennis courts beginning April 8, 2013.
“Our Health Club puts a premium on continuing to provide guests with engaging avenues to improve their physical fitness level,” said Patrick Schaub, general manager of Edsa Shangri-La, Manila, adding, “Our partnership with an elite tennis academy such as the PTTA aims to do just that and more.”
The Academy offers one-hour, private professional tennis instruction courses and a summer camp open to ages divided into classes of 5-10, 11-17 and 18 and up. All enrollees will receive an official PTTA summer camp shirt and have access to the hotel’s Health Club facilities and equipment.
A new program called “Elite” will also be offered to gifted tennis players under 20 years of age. In addition, Edsa Shangri-La, Manila and the PTTA will be offering full or partial tennis scholarships to some of the “Elite” players who are unable to afford the course fee.
“The sport of tennis is for all Filipinos – it should have no economic barriers,” said the soft-spoken Christian, one-half of the talented Filipino-American pair.
The PTTA is an international tennis development organization chaired by tThe Perkins tTwins’ father, Tarny, who was part of the Professional Tennis Tour in Europe. The first of its kind in the country, the academy aims to strengthen the sport locally and assist would-be athletes in achieving success. The Perkins twins, Jesse and Christian, are known by most not only for their on-court success but also for their off-court endeavors. The brothers have recently broken into the local television circuit as budding singers and actors.
