Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo recognised by TripAdvisor as the best hotel in Japan and awarded the coveted Five-Star rating by Forbes Travel Guide 2019

Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo has been recognised as the best hotel in Japan in TripAdvisor’s 2019 Travelers’ Choice, which named it Number 1 in the Top 25 Hotels in Japan category. The hotel has also received the coveted Five-Star rating in this year’s prestigious Forbes Travel Guide’s Star Rating.

TripAdvisor’s awards highlight the best hotels around the world, based entirely on independent reviews and opinions by travelers, with Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo in first place in Japan. The annual Awards celebrate the world’s most outstanding properties and the hotel’s TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence recognises Shangri-La’s “unique brand of hospitality and service” and “finest facilities and amenities.” Its convenient location adjacent to Tokyo Station won the hotel a perfect 5 out of 5 rating based on 1,756 reviews.

Forbes Travel Guide has been recognised as the industry leader in hospitality awards for over 60 years, and this year only 4 properties in Tokyo received Five-Star recognition, an honour created in 1958. The independent global rating system awards five stars to “outstanding, often iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities.” Highly trained inspectors visit each hotel on an anonymous basis, and their evaluation is based on up to 900 objective criteria relating to service and facilities over a minimum of two nights. How a guest feels is considered as important to the experience as how a hotel looks, a key factor that placed Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo – a leader in the world of exemplary, friendly service - at the very forefront of luxury hospitality in the city.

The inspectors’ singled out the hotel’s dramatic chandeliers, particularly one with half a million crystals that spans three floors created in the Czech Republic by Lasvit, the size of the guest rooms – among the largest in Tokyo, ranging from 540 to 2,900-sq.ft., contemporary seasonal Italian fare at Piacere, and CHI, The Spa, which features Chinese medicine-inspired, energy-aligning treatments. Inspectors also highlighted the array of services for guests, including complimentary shoe shining, laundry, valet, rental of the hotel’s house car and a personal pocket-sized Wi-Fi.
