Kuala Lumpur, 3 October 2013 - Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur is pleased to announce the appointment of Reto K. Klauser as the hotel’s new Vice President / General Manager.
Mr. Klauser, a Swiss national, brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, most of which has been spent with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.
Reto Klauser came from the Makati Shangri-La in Manila, where he was Area Manager/General Manager until now, leading it to be named the Best Business Hotel in the Philippines. Before that, he worked at the Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou for two years where he garnered multiple accolades for the hotel, including Best New Hotel in China.
Malaysia is not new to Mr. Klauser. He opened the 571-room Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur in 2006 and as its first general manager, this Shangri-La veteran played a pivotal role in bringing the hotel to the forefront by attaining GOP within the first few months of operations.
In 2002, Mr. Klauser was appointed as general manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, where his tireless work gained recognition and he received the Tourism Minister’s Special Award for outstanding contribution to tourism in the state. He was also President of the Malaysian Hotel Association in Sabah.
As general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Klauser is in charge of providing initiative, judgement, leadership, and direction to ensure efficient and effective operations of this property. He is also the Vice President and oversees all the other Malaysian properties namely Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu, Putrajaya Shangri-La, Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Traders Hotel, Puteri Harbour, Johor, Malaysia, Golden Sands Resort, Penang, Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang, and Traders Hotel, Penang.
Mr. Klauser brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in hotel management. He began his profession in Swissotel Zurich Oerlikon. As a trainee in Food & Beverage, he progressed to being Food & Beverage Manager at Moevenpick Hotels International, undergoing a multitude of trainings in areas of Leadership, Training, Beverage and Time Management. Later on, his post as Food and Beverage Director at Portman Shangri-La, Shanghai began his growth with the Shangri-La group and his journey of exceptional service as “the ideal host”, as he is known to those who have had the privilege of working with him, became his trademark.
