For 27 years, over MYR 3 million in donations have been raised by Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, to support more than 200 children from low socio-economic backgrounds for heart surgeries, prosthesis and wheelchairs through the Gift of Life Programme.
Additional projects include adoption and refurbishment of the pediatric wing of Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, financial and renovation support to Serdang and Sejahtera Seri Setia Old Folks homes and donations to flood victims and orphanage homes.
Life-Saving Heart Surgeries
Every year, the hotel organises a fundraising event in order to provide financial assistance to selected children who are suffering from heart ailments and in need of immediate life-saving surgeries. In 2012, the hotel raised MYR 77,300 to support eight children’s congenital heart surgeries and five youth’s prosthesis.
Prosthetics for Nor Fatihah
In 1997, three-year old Nor Fatihah, was in dire need of artificial limbs. The hotel ‘adopted’ Nor Fatihah and raised MYR 30,000 to provide her first pair of artificial limbs. Since then, the hotel has been sponsoring her replacement limbs every five years. She has undergone three limb replacement procedures to date.
On 15 May 2012, the hotel donated HK$ 312,448.60 (MYR 127, 800) to five children who required immediate surgeries and artificial limbs. The hotel will keep track of the patients’ progress by following up with their immediate family members, doctors and regular visits.
Let us help these children by donating to the Gift of Life Charity Fund.
