Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu Appoints a New Executive Chef

Kota Kinabalu, 5 March 2015 - Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa's general manager recently announced the appointment of Yusuf Yaran as the resort's new executive chef.

Chef Yusuf is internationally renowned and no stranger to the culinary world. He won recognition as the "Best Chef of Turkey on Patisserie" when he was just 22 years old. He is also known for making "Guinness World's Longest Yule Log Cake" in 2011 and has won multiple awards at various food festivals. In 2007, leading news portal Forbes Traveller named one of Chef Yusuf's creations, The Sultan's Golden Cake, as "The 4th Most Expensive Dessert in the World".

Chef Yusuf is a Turkish national and brings with him over 24 years of extensive experience. He started his career as a patissier, or pastry chef, and decided to extend his expertise to the main kitchen.

Chef Yusuf represents the tenth generation in a long line of family chefs that started with his great grandfather. Raised in the city of Bolu Mengen, which has been famous for producing great chefs in Turkey since the Ottoman Empire, he decided to follow in his family's footsteps and become a chef himself.

His most recent post was serving as the executive sous chef of Shangri-La Jakarta.

Chef Yusuf's objective is to use fresh, organic and selective ingredients and experiment with cooking methods to create dishes with the best taste and presentation. His passion for the culinary industry makes him actively seek new challenges. This has brought him numerous international awards for his work with pastry and the main kitchen.
