Lobby Lounge at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong Launches “Birdie Paradise” Birdcage Afternoon Tea

Guests can now indulge in a new afternoon tea set featuring a choice of newly crafted Chinese or European sweet and savoury treats at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong’s Lobby Lounge. Served in a custom-made four-tier golden birdcage hanging either from the ceiling or on a stand, the afternoon tea set is available at HK$488 for two persons and HK$288 for one person from Monday to Friday, except public holidays, between 2 and 5 p.m.

In the inviting elegance and comfort of Lobby Lounge, guests will be treated to a brand-new experience with five-star service. The afternoon tea set includes two themed menus, Chinese and European, each featuring four tiers of culinary gourmet delights in a decorative birdcage.

The first tier, “The Introduction”, serves as a great start with alluring and palatable appetisers that will keep guests asking for more.

On the second tier is “Hot Signature”, a showcase of the best savoury delights and talents of the hotel’s native European Executive Chef Alexandre Buytaert and Executive Chinese Chef Mok Kit Keung.

The “Modern Classics” on the third tier highlights a taste of authenticity with modern twist on traditional and classic pastries.

The last tier, “Sweet Ending”, features delicately rendered desserts fashioned after some best-selling treats.

Guests who choose the Chinese menu can look forward to a selection of premium savoury bites from the Michelin two-starred Shang Palace, including Chilled Alaskan King Crab Meat with Sake in Chrysanthemum Jelly, Vegetarian Bearn Curd Roll, Barbecued Duck and Pickled Ginger wrapped in Daikon with Seafood Sauce and, and Roasted Cod Fish Fillet with Sweet Soy Sauce and Mango Chutney.

Sweet offerings include Traditional Red Bean and Coconut Pudding, Red Peony Pastry with Homemade Lotus Seed Paste, Matcha Sponge Cake with Custard Filling, Matcha Egg Tart, and Chilled Sago Cream with Fresh Mango Juice and Pomelo.

The European menu includes Caponata and Smoked Beef Terrine with Pesto and Ricotta, Foie Gras Parfait on Almond Crisp, Oak Salmon with Cream Cheese Sandwich, Prawn Salad Sandwich with Truffle Caviar, Raspberry Macaroon, Tiramisu in Wafer Tartlet, Blueberry Cheese Tart with Elderberry Syrup Infusion and Chocolate Praline Cake.

Both menus include a welcome mocktail, amuse-bouche, warm homemade scones smothered in jams, a fruit platter and a silver tree filled with heavenly chocolates, presented on the table. A range of quality fruit teas, flower teas and freshly brewed coffee is served to accompany the afternoon tea treats. Guests can also take home a mini birdcage memento, available while stocks last.

“Our outstanding selection of premium tea leaves is a perfect accompaniment to the delicious finger food; absolutely everything served is made fresh. Our Executive Chinese Chef Mok and Dim Sum Chefs have specially put their heads together to create the food items for the Chinese set. Executive Pastry Chef Thomas and myself spare no effort in ensuring our guests get variety and surprises by coming up with a set with European fare,” said Executive Chef Alexandre.

Ulrich Jablonka, the hotel’s director of food and beverage, said, “The incredible amount of effort and work that goes into the new presentation and menus together with the warm and friendly service, as well as the elegant ambience of Lobby Lounge, makes the afternoon tea affair a delight for all senses.”
