Insider Tips

The two-storey lobby has been home to the Shangri-La Valley murals since the hotel opened in 1981. Created and painted by British artist Malcolm Golding, the large murals illustrate a mythical kingdom amidst the scenic Tibetan mountains, with beautiful bird and flower features at the foreground. The concept of nine "dragon" hills that Kowloon is named after is incorporated into both of the murals through the "dragon clouds." (In Cantonese, Kowloon or Gao Lung literally translates to nine dragons).
