Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong's Summer Palace Awarded Two Michelin Stars and Restaurant Petrus Awarded One Michelin Star

The long awaited news from the world-renowned Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau 2014 has officially been released. Summer Palace at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, has been awarded with two Michelin stars for the third time. Summer Palace was first awarded the Michelin two stars in 2009, and was a one-star Michelin restaurant in 2008, as well as from 2010 to 2012. Restaurant Petrus received one Michelin Star and is amongst the seven French restaurants in Hong Kong to receive Michelin Star recognition.

Chef Ip Chi Cheung, Chef de Cuisine at Summer Palace, is delighted with the recognition, “The team and I are so proud of this achievement. We are committed to creating the finest culinary experience for our guests and we will continue to strive for even better results in the future.”

In his pursuit of excellence, Chef Ip selects only the freshest produce and allows the full and unique flavour of each ingredient to be brought out.  He places emphasis on aroma, colour, taste, texture and contrast, resulting in his dishes having a more distinctive flavour compared to conventional Cantonese cuisine.  Chef Ip enjoys the challenge of experimenting with new recipes and finding ways to combine ingredients to create new dishes, and he regularly visits markets to check on seasonal produce.

An advocate of sourcing only the best and natural ingredients, Chef Chabbert marries the finest produce with traditional cooking techniques to achieve a distinctive flavour in dishes that are simply presented “the way they should be.” His menu reflects this approach with the focus on offering the restaurant’s clientele continuous enjoyment of fine French cuisine.
