SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, SURABAYA INVITES 250 CHILDREN WITH DOWN SYNDROME TO SHOW THEIR TALENTS

Surabaya, 25 March 2019 ¬ To commemorate World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March 2019, Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, in collaboration with the Coordination Board for Social Welfare Activities of East Java (BKKKS) held an event themed “Down Syndrome Children are Great” in the Pelangi and Nirwana Rooms on 25 March 2019.

A total of 250 children with Down syndrome, 13 teachers and 300 parents participated in this event. From noon to 5 p.m., the children performed in several activities, such as a talent show, fashion show, rhythmic gymnastics, bazaar and a health consultation.

Twenty volunteers from various institutions and communities, including Universitas Surabaya, Universitas Airlangga and Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya; the Unity of Parents of Children with Down Syndrome (POTADS); Special Olympics Indonesia (SOINA); Indonesian Child Welfare Foundation (YKAI); Sahabat Bumi; and employees of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, all supported the event.

On this occasion, Arumi Bachsin, the chairwoman of Family Welfare Development (PKK) also the wife of Emil Dardak, the vice governor of East Java, attended this event.

“I am happy to be invited to this event and be present in this room among parents of Down syndrome children. Children with Down syndrome are no different from other children; they are more powerful because they have advantages and are more expressive,” Arumi said in her remarks.
