Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya's Commitment to the Corporate Social Responsibility Five Key Initiatives

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya has actively been reducing single-use plastic bags and replacing plastic straws with paper straws and plastic cups with paper cups in all its restaurants. Shangri-La properties in Indonesia ended 2019 on a positive note with a collaborative CSR effort. From 5 to 8 December 2019, employees from Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta and Shangri-La Jakarta Residences participated in “Coast-to-Coast Share and Care 2019” cycling trip to benefit schools and students from low income backgrounds. Each day, colleagues cycled hundreds of kilometers to visit and donate supplies to schools in low income communities. Shangri-La is confident that this activity will contribute to plastic awareness and conservation within Indonesia. At the end of the successful four-day trip, all Coast-to-Coast participants celebrated the programme by planting mangroves in Pekalongan Mangrove Park on 8 December 2019. Preserving the mangrove ecosystem, and encouraging Shangri-La employees and suppliers to be a catalyst for meaningful change to the local community are some of the positive outcomes we are proud to support.

ASEAN GREEN Hotel Awards.
Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya received the ASEAN Green Hotel Award for 2020-2022. The Green Hotel Standard is an ASEAN initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism practices around the ASEAN region.

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya has been certified for ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, adhering to the framework that allows for an effective environmental management system, providing reassurance to management, employees, and the external stakeholders that the environmental impact is being managed and improved in the long run.

Health and Safety 

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya has taken calculated measures to ensure that the high standards of health and safety are maintained for the benefit of all stakeholders. Certified ISO 45001 and ISO 22000, the hotel follows a strict framework to ensure food safety systems, hygiene and sanitation standards. In addition, various security and safety initiatives are customised and implemented by the hotel based on timely assessments of the local situation.

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya only collaborates with business partners who share the values of corporate citizenship, respect for the environment, human rights and social justice. Whenever possible, the hotel prefers local suppliers and is working towards providing eco-friendly products to promote development opportunities within communities.

Stakeholder Relations 

The group aims to always engage stakeholders in a clear, honest and respectful way. Regular dialogue is conducted with corporate and preferred clients, suppliers, concessionaries and the local community to better address issues that we might face at our properties.

Through Embrace, Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, has recently switched it’s project from MI (elementary school) NURUL HUDA 1 at the end of 2019 to the newly-adopted SD TANWIR school, with the aim to improve the school’s infrastructure, such as classroom make-overs, repainting the building, school yard renovation and other continuous activities for the long-term improvement of the school and its students.
