Shangri-La Achieves First ISO 22000:2005 Hotel Certification in East Java

Shangri-La Achieves First ISO 22000:2005 Hotel Certification in East Java

Surabaya, 28 February 2017 – Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya was recently certified ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety Management System) by Lloyd’s Register (LRQA) a world-leading, independent provider of professional assurance services and body certification.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has always taken food safety seriously.  ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety Management System) is about the ability to control food safety hazards to ensure that food is safe for consumption, starting from the ingredients’ source, food storage, food production and food services till delivery to the guest/customer, as well as monitoring all food handler service areas, including the staffs.

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya has the distinct honour of being the first hotel in East Java to be ISO 22000:2005 certified.  From implementing colour-coding labels for each food item and equipment, tracking expiration dates by applying the “First In, First Out / First Expired, First Out (FIFO/FEFO)” rule to enforcing strict maintenance of food temperatures (varies for each meal and product category), the Shangri-La group exemplifies food safety as an ongoing collaborative effort.

With a global framework of internationally harmonised requirements, ISO’s Food Safety Management standards help organisations identify and control food safety hazards to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption.  As many of today’s food products repeatedly cross national boundaries, international standards are needed to ensure the safety of the global food supply chain.

“I would like to thank our team members from the Shangri-La Food Safety Management System (SFSMS), the trained auditors and all food handlers for their hard work and patience in obtaining this outstanding achievement,” Mr Sigi said in conveying his sincere appreciation.
