Shang Palace Chef Nick NG Presents Heavenly Mid-Autumn Treats

Shang Palace Chef Nick NG Presents Heavenly Mid-Autumn Treats

Surabaya, 29 July 2016 – Shang Palace’s new Chinese dim sum chef, Nick Ng, and his culinary team at Shang Palace have created three new heavenly Mid-Autumn treats, popularly known as mooncakes.

Chef Ng, a native Malaysian, has been on board Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya for more than two months.  His first creations are a range of mooncakes that Shang Palace’s loyal patrons can enjoy until September.

Chef Ng handcrafted this year’s mooncakes with a touch of luxury and modern taste for guests, featuring one of the Chinese premium ingredients – bird’s nest.  He combines the renowned white lotus paste with bird’s nest to uplift the already-favourite mooncake.  Bird’s nest in Chinese culture is also known as the caviar of the East and believed to give people who consume it good health and youthfulness.

Chef Ng’s other two mooncake flavours are Sweet Potato and Sour Cheese Cream and XO Martell with Pandan Paste.

Shang Palace offers mooncakes today until 15 September 2015 to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is widely celebrated by the Chinese all over the whole world.

In addition to the three flavours, Shang Palace’s mooncakes are available in these variants: White Lotus Paste, Red Lotus, Pandan, Green Tea, Golden Corn, Red Bean and Custard Egg – all specially made by the chef.

Chef Ng is no stranger to the Shangri-La group because he was previously with Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore back in 2013 before he joined another hotel chain in Myanmar.  He joined Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya in May 2016.

Together with the team, Chef Ng aims to bring a breath of fresh air to the Chinese dining scene in Surabaya with his new and modern approach to dim sum.  He tantalises Shang Palace’s loyal patrons even more with new and exciting dim sum menus.
