Tuaran, Malaysia, 13 March 2014 – Twenty-seven-year hotel veteran Bruno Cristol has been named general manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu and Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club after a two-year stint with Shangri-La group’s first Traders hotel in Australia, Traders Hotel, Brisbane.
Mr. Cristol, a French-Australian national, has worked with the Shangri-La group for more than a decade. His wealth of knowledge and experience includes opening new hotels and restaurants in the UK, South of France, Italy, Asia and Australia.
Mr. Cristol first joined Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in 2001 as director of food and beverage at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong. In 2005, he moved to Australia to become the resident manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney. He was actively involved in the hotel’s renovation and rebranding, which earned it the “Best Luxury Accommodation” category award at the New South Wales Tourism Awards and the “Best Deluxe Hotel of the Year 2006” from the Australian Hotels Association (AHA).
After two years in Sydney, Mr. Cristol took the helm as general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns. He then became general manager of Golden Sands Resort, Penang.
After a 15-month hotel renovation and upgrade, including carefully deliberated repositioning plans in 2009, Golden Sands Resort, Penang subsequently bagged “The Best Four-star Resort in Malaysia in 2011” award, as voted by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia. For two consecutive years, the resort was named “Best Family Resort in Malaysia” by Expat Life Magazine and Holidays with Kids, Australia.
With his vast experience, he has big plans for Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu, especially with the opening of the M$90 million (US$28 million) new Ocean Wing blocks. The new blocks will consist of 81 rooms that are expected to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2015.

His transfer coincides with the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign and he looks forward to being a positive contributor towards the success of the resort and the tourism industry in Sabah.
