TORONTO,
January 23, 2017 – Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto welcomes guests to ring in the
Year of the Rooster with a traditional Lion Dance, live music, and special
Chinese New Year High Tea in Lobby Lounge.
The
Lion Dance has been a traditional part of Chinese culture for many centuries,
and will mark the start of the hotel’s Chinese New Year celebrations on 28
January 2017. Starting at 3:30 p.m., dancers will perform a traditional Eye-Dotting
Ceremony and Lion Dance in the lobby of the hotel. From there, the lion dancers
will weave their way through the various outlets in the hotel, warding off evil
spirits, assuring good luck, and collecting Hong Bao – good luck red envelopes
– along the way.
Following
the Lion Dance, guests can relax in Lobby Lounge and delight in Chinese New
Year High Tea, with a menu created to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. Available
from 22 January to 4 February 2017, guests can enjoy a tea tower that includes a
selection of finger sandwiches, such as: poached Atlantic lobster on brioche roll
with citrus crème fraîche, and the popular BBQ duck bun with marinated wild mushroom,
coriander shoots and ginger emulsion. A selection of pastries includes Chinese five
spice scones and classic English scones, served with homemade pandan leaf curd,
strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream. To accompany each High Tea tower,
guests can choose from over 75 premium teas. A vegetarian Chinese New Year High
Tea menu is also available upon request.
Chinese
New Year High Tea will be available daily from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for CAD$61
per person.
