Running is Shangri-La: Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto helps visitors find new finish lines in the city of Toronto

April 29, 2015 – Guests can hit their stride at Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto this spring. The hotel is pleased to introduce a new package “Running is Shangri-La” that provides guests with scenic running routes catered to suit the needs of a beginner, intermediate or advanced runner. Additional wellness options include practicing yoga in the privacy of their guest suite with a lululemon guided video as a pre or post run stretch, a robust healthy menu, unlimited access to the hotel’s state of the art Health Club facilities including the acclaimed pool and fitness classes and a signature Hammam and Gommage treatment for two at the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie.

For dedicated runners, a daily run is a cherished ritual that revs the body and feeds the mind. Getting in a great run can help business travelers get the deal done and leisure travelers can enjoy their favorite activities while on holiday. Guests of the hotel need not miss out on their healthy routine. Runners can enjoy their daily kilometers while exploring some of Toronto's interesting sights such as:

  • The historic St. Lawrence market, the financial district with impressive views of the CN Tower totaling 3 kilometers; 
  • University Avenue highlighting Queen’s Park, Ontario’s Provincial Legislature and the University of Toronto campus totaling 4 kilometers;  
  • Trinity Bellwoods Park and Queen Street West area which was named by VOGUE magazine in September 2014 as one of the world’s cool neighborhoods totaling 5 kilometers; 
  • The city’s dynamic waterfront with an uninterrupted run for as far as 20 kilometers along Lake Ontario. 

All of the recommended running routes have been personally tested and amended by Ben Kaplan, editor-in-chief of iRun magazine, author of Feet, Don't Fail Me Now, and   running columnist for the National Post. Guests can access the maps on their phones by scanning the QR codes for the specific map of their choice located in all guestroom suites.

Complementing the running program, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto has created an original yoga video in partnership with lululemon and lululemon yoga ambassador Amber Joliat that is available on all Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto's 202 guestroom TV's and iPads. Guests can enjoy practicing yoga in the privacy of their rooms on lululemon yoga mats provided in every guestroom and suite. The video itself (25 minutes in length) was shot in different areas of the hotel. This instructional video is also available on Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto's youtube channel for guests to access at any time while in Toronto or at home.

Guests can feel at ease knowing there are ample wellness options available on all the hotel’s menus that highlight sustainable sources of produce, fish and meat. Dishes on offer include locally sourced organic vegetables and fruits, poultry and beef and sustainable seafood. In room dining menus have a Healthy Lifestyle section highlighted for guests and for dining options in bosk, the hotel’s signature restaurant, all sustainable and locally produced and seasonal ingredients are marked as “Rooted in Nature” marking the hotel’s sustainability initiative.

As part of “Running is Shangri-La” guests will rejuvenate with a signature Hammam and Gommage treatment in the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie. In centuries past, the Hammam and Gommage was known as the silent doctor and the experience is considered to be the ultimate detoxification treatment. Part of the authentic traditions of the Middle East,  guests will experience de-stressing between a private high intensity and low mist steam chamber with an invigorating full body Gommage (exfoliation) using eucalyptus infused black Moroccan soap.

To complete the wellness stay at Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, guests may benefit from the fitness equipment and Health Club classes including kettle bell, spin and yoga as well as paying a visit to the infrared sauna all located on the hotel’s fifth floor. Named one of the world’s beautiful pools by Condé Nast Traveler in 2013, guest can swim to their hearts’ content and further relax and rejuvenate in the private cabanas or for the more adventurous, can enjoy the outdoor terrace and the first rays of the Spring sun!
