A "Taste of Malaysia" Takes Centre Stage at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney will take guests on a fragrant trip to the inaugural “Taste of Malaysia” Food Festival at Café Mix from 26 May to 1 June 2017.

The hotel has flown in guest chefs Anis Rusydan Bin Amran and Azman Bln Mat Hasan of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to create authentic dishes for Sydney-siders to savour.

Malay cuisine is a delicious melting pot of cultures spanning Thai, Chinese, Indonesian and Indian flavours and is as varied as the national population.

The rich and spicy influences extend from wok-fried noodles, steaming bowls of fluffy rice and delicate, savoury-yet-sweet Malaysian delicacies to age-old culinary gems and spices.

Guests will relish aromatic dishes ranging from Rendang Daging and Curry Laksa to Sayur Munir Goreng and Nasi Minyak.  For the sweetest finale, colourful and creative desserts include Sweet Tapioca Cake, Sweet Egg Cake and Sweet Green Bean Stew in Coconut Sauce.

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney’s Executive Chef Hemant Dadlani is excited to host a festival with such a diverse gastronomic confluence.

“Malaysian cuisine is influenced by almost every major Asian cuisine, and overflows with the colour, spices and flavours of its culture and sultry climate,” Chef Dadlani said.

“Taste of Malaysia” is presented in partnership with Malaysian Airlines and Tourism Malaysia.

Café Mix has fast become known as a home for international food festivals and a sumptuous seafood selection.  “Taste of Malaysia” is available during the buffet lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. at $55 per person.  The buffet dinner is available from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at $85 per person.  For bookings, call (02) 9250 6000 or send an email to  For more information, visit
