Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu Awarded “Hotel For Meeting Experience Of The Year” By Events China

Qufu, China, 22 September 2014 – Events China accorded Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu the “Hotel for Meeting Experience of the Year (Secondary/Third City)” award during the 2014 China Travel & Meetings Industry Awards presentation event on 16 September 2014.

“This is an inspiration to the entire team, especially on the occasion of Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu’s one-year anniversary,” said the hotel’s general manager, Mr. Jason Xu. “The key to this success rests in our persistent efforts to deliver the rich culture of the city of Qufu as the hometown of Confucius, which encompasses the promotion of Qufu as an emerging travel destination, the hotel’s impressive culturally rich interior design, the reinvention of Kong Family Cuisine, and a bigger vision of our hotel and for our team to exemplify the philosophies of Confucius, and provide our guests a special place to enjoy quiet reflections, and find peace and great memories, in the tranquillity of this magnificent city.”

Events China and Travel Weekly held the 2014 China Travel & Meetings Industry Awards to celebrate the travel industry’s top achievers, providing a definitive benchmark honouring the most outstanding participants in the travel market.

The path to wisdom can lead to a heartfelt welcome. Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu is within walking distance of the Temple of Confucius, the Mansion of Confucius and the Cemetery of Confucius. All three are UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Sites, and Qufu is one of mainland China’s 24 government-designated famous historical and cultural cities. Located in Shandong Province, Qufu is two hours from Beijing and three hours from Shanghai by high-speed rail, making it a convenient cultural excursion from either city.

Blending Confucian principles, Chinese traditions and contemporary style, the hotel’s design reflects Qufu’s history with modern aesthetics. Chinese architecture sets the tone, with the hotel’s façade designed to resemble a traditional Chinese pavilion and roofs topped with grey tiers of flying eaves.

The hotel’s interior design concept expresses the three key principles of Confucian philosophy – order, harmony and hierarchy – and is based on Confucius’ “Six Arts” (which include the disciplines of Rites, Music, Archery, Chariot Racing, Calligraphy and Mathematics).

With the opening of 322 spacious rooms in the East Wing with either city or river views, Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu features complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, five restaurants and bars, and extensive meeting and banquet facilities spanning 2,381 square metres, including the 1,600-square-metre pillar-free Grand Ballroom on level two with an outdoor terrace. The hotel’s signature Confucius-themed coffee and tea breaks are well received by MICE participants and delegations.
