In order to lower the carbon footprint and environmental impact of corporate meetings, sister properties, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang and Golden Sands Resort, Penang are offering creative green meetings.
Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, which has won the bi-annual Green Hotel Award presented by the ASEAN Tourism Forum for the fifth consecutive time, has an in-house bottling plant which offers bottled water to all in-house guests. Guests have the option of having a tai chi breakfast or yoga breakfast amidst the manicured gardens or under the giant rain trees of verdant Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa. Sister property, Golden Sands Resort, also provides bottled water for all in-house guests. Guests can opt to have their meetings outdoors at both resorts in order to reduce the impact of air-conditioning emissions into the environment.
Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort’s environmentally savvy theme breaks focus on reduced packaging. Zesty flavoured water is served in glass jugs. Centralized note pads and pencils are provided along with white board and non-toxic markers. Complimentary WiFi is also available for meeting delegates along with Press Reader application so that newspapers, periodicals and magazines can be read online. Snacks are served in non-disposable ware and locally sourced tit bits are featured in the tea break. There is also a green centrepiece decoration to adorn the meeting room while recycling bins are set up at strategic spots.
Delegates will also be given a green plant each from their team building activity as a take home souvenir. Delegates may opt to have their meeting outdoors in the expansive gardens and enhance it with a head and body massage during tea break to refresh themselves. Complimentary shuttle to and from George Town also helps to further reduce the delegates’ carbon footprint.
Delegates may also incorporate outdoor activities like a round of golf at the nine-hole par-three pitch and putt golf course, Segway rides, outdoor tennis, table tennis, beach or pool volleyball along with their green-themed meetings.
