Shangri-La Groups of Hotel in Penang Light Up Lives at Lighthouse

The Shangri-La group of hotels in Penang, hosted a Chinese New Year celebration dinner for over 180 people at the Lighthouse, a community service center for the urban poor.

Management and staff of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang, Golden Sands Resort, Penang and Traders Hotel, Penang, brought Lighthouse clients good wishes and a sponsored dinner, ice cream and Chinese New Year cookies.

A grand toss on the giant platter of yee sang between the hotel staff and the Lighthouse clients followed thereafter, and all were treated to a Chinese New Year dinner featuring specialities prepared by master chefs at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang.

The Lighthouse is a community service centre project for the homeless and urban poor initiated by the Penang Office for Human Development, a social arm of the Catholic Church’s Penang-based diocese. It started its operations in March 2003 and it is a charitable organisation dependent on the generosity of the public's contributions and sponsorships. In 2009, Shangri-La group of hotels in Penang, comprising of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Penang, Golden Sands Resort, Penang and Traders Hotel, Penang, committed to a meal sponsorship programme and took turns to sponsor daily dinners for about 120 guests every month for the duration of one year.
