Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi Hosts a Gastronomic Expedition with Shangri-La Hotel, Istanbul’s Chef Gazi Ciftci

Café Uno, the All Day Dining restaurant at Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi presents Chef Gazi Ciftci from Shangri-La Istanbul - an enchanting retreat in the capital of empires to delight gastronomes with his tantalising Turkish creations FROM 6 TO 16 March , 2014.

Diners will have the pleasure of savouring Chef Ciftci’s innovative and delectable creations during the Turkish food festival at Café Uno.

As you step into Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi, the tantalising aromas lead you to Cafe Uno, the culinary pride of Shangri-La located at the Ground Level with a view over lush green lawns.

This will also be the first year that Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi hosts a food festival celebrating Turkish cuisine and culture.

An array of exquisitely prepared traditional Turkish delicacies are sweet and savoury on the palate. On his first visit to Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, New Delhi, Chef Ciftci will bring to India his best selection of signature dishes, including Kısır (Cracked Wheat Salad), Barbunya Pilaki (Kidney Bean Pilaki), Enginar (Artichoke in Olive Oil), Circassian Chicken, Haydari Yoghurt with Mint and Garlic, Imam Bayıldi (Stuffed Eggplant), Antep Ezme (Spicy Tomato Marmalade), Çoban Salatası (Sheppard Salad), Zeytinyağlı Kereviz (Celery in Olive Oil), Zeytinyağlı Pırasa (Leek in Olive Oil), Zeytinyağlı Mantar (Mushrooms in Olive Oil), Lamb Liver Skewer, Meyhane Pilavi, Nar Eksili Sogan Kebap, Patlican Sogutrme, Sea Bass, Sliced Lamb Liver, Sultan Resat Salatasi, Swiss Chard with Almonds and Oriental Rice (Iç Pilav).

The dessert selection includes Kazandibi (Caramelised Milk Pudding), Pumpkin Dessert, Sütlaç (Baked Rice Pudding), Şekerpare, Lokma (Dough Fried in Syrup), Tavuk Göğsü (Chicken Breast Pudding), Quince Dessert, Vişneli Muhallebi (Muhallebi with Sour Cherry), Semolina Dessert, Krem Şokola (Chocolate Pudding), Keşkül(Almond Pudding) and Revani.

The Turkish food festival will be inaugurated by Mr. Aykut Renda, chargé d”affaires, Embassy of the Republic of Turkey, along with other luminaries at Cafe Uno on 6 March 2014.

Aside from the culinary delights, guests can discover more about the country’s culture through dance and music performances organised by Indialogue Foundation. Whirling Dervishes, an eight troupe Turkish band and Sufi singers, will demonstrate the Turkish cultural heritage through soulful music and graceful dance performances from 6 to 9 March, 2014.

About Turkish Cuisine:

Turkish cuisine or Türk mutfağı is largely the heritage of Ottoman cuisine, which can be described as a fusion and refinement of Central Asian, Caucasian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Balkan cuisines. Turkish cuisine has in turn, influenced other neighbouring cuisines, including those of Western Europe. About Chef Gazi Ciftci

Gazi Çiftçi was born in 1984 in Bolu, Turkey, a city famous with its chefs. He started his chef education at 12 years old at Culinary Vocational School. He had seven years of theoretical and operational training at the most famous five star hotels in Turkey before graduating in 2002.

In 2002, he started to work at Margaux, one of the first fine dining restaurants in Istanbul. He went to Ankara, the capital of Turkey, to complete his military service and was chosen to be the chef of speciality kitchen, serving the General Officers. He cooked special meals for the president and prime minister of Turkey, along with local and international bureaucrats. He was granted many letters of appreciation for his accomplishments.

After completing his military service in 2007, he started to work at first-class restaurants. In May, 2007 he went to London to work as executive chef at a Turkish restaurant, Turkuaz. After one year, he became the sous chef at a fine dining French restaurant in Greenwich, The Spread Eagle, and held the positionfor two years as sous chef. In 2010, he returned to Turkey.

When he came back to Turkey, he started to work as sous chefat 360, one of the best restaurants in Istanbul. After three years, in February 2013, he joined Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul and is still part of the hotel’s team.
