Rooted in Nature: the Farmers’ Market Runs at Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing

Beijing, 3 July 2016 – Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing’s lush garden came to life in a bustling, colourful scene as the hotel opened a Farmers’ Market on 3 July 2016, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stalls displayed the freshest organic fruits and vegetables, dairy, cheese and many other goods from local sources.

Certified organic suppliers showcased and sold not only vegetables and fruits; the public also had their pick of eggs, handmade noodles, freshly brewed rice wines, herbal tea and jams at the stalls.  The hotel prepared freshly baked breads, pastries, cookies and healthy drinks for the guests to taste and buy.

Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing launched the Farmers’ Market in support of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ ‘Rooted in Nature’ initiative to educate and inspire local communities to enjoy fresh, nutritious and sustainably sourced food.  The move is in line with the hotel’s strong commitment to sustainability goals and aims to set a global standard for culinary social responsibility by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

Open to the public and to be held regularly as the hotel’s long-term activity, the Farmers’ Market offers local guests the freshest organic fruits and vegetables, rice wines, dairy, honey, dry goods and award-winning cheese at market prices.  They may also enjoy organic menus at the hotel’s restaurants.

Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing’s Farmers’ Market provides guests a fun and healthy shopping time and strives to create awareness and work with local communities in the form of sustainable partnerships.
