Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou Sets Guinness World Record For the Largest Gathering of Brides

Guangzhou, 26 June 2016 – Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou successfully set a new Guinness World Record in the category of the largest gathering of brides in the hotel garden lawn with a total of 843 participants.  The last record was achieved by Foyle Hospice in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, UK 27 April, 2013 with a total 748 participants.

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou organised the Guinness World Record challenge in partnership with a number of companies with wedding expertise.  The hotel offered comprehensive services ranging from wedding gowns, hairstyling, make-up to video documentation, as well as photography, for the event.  This means all participants need not do anything, but come to enjoy the experience; they simply be fabulous in a bridal look and be proud about the world-record breaking moment.  In addition, the whole process literally enabled the participants to visualise how their unique wedding dream can come true.

Ever since the invitation message was released on social media platforms, the hotel had received a large number of requests to join the event.  Over 1,800 volunteers signed up for this Guinness World Record challenge and this number kept going up to a staggering 2,200 until June, 20.  To ensure all participants could comfortably socialise on the premises, the hotel capped the total number at around 1,000.  It was, indeed, the largest sorority gathering in bridal gowns in the city.

The participants came from all walks of life and were at different ages.  They joined the event for a wide range of purposes; some came for the excitement of being part of the world record breaking history, some came to re-live their wedding day, some joined to plan their own wedding and some just joined for a fun party with their friends.

For the hotel and the event partners, the message was straightforward, that is, to bring joy to modern women’s lives with a big party.  All participants were invited to put their work and chores aside to have an indulging time with their best friends.

The record-breaking venue was set on the hotel lawn, which is nestled amidst 5,800 square metres of tranquil gardens overlooking the Pearl River.  The subtropical landscape, along with the outdoor pools, a jogging lane and gazebo on the water, puts the hotel in a unique position as the best urban resort in town.

The over-1,500-square-metre lawn is perfect for outdoor wedding receptions and cocktail parties.  The 6,000 square metres of meeting and banqueting venues, featuring two majestic ballrooms, eight function rooms and a 100-seat auditorium, cater to events of any scale.

The hotel’s designated wedding specialists handle all wedding-related services ranging from wedding enquiries and site inspection to food tasting and post-event follow-up.  On the wedding day, a dedicated wedding butler will coordinate everything from beginning to end.
