Malaysian Guest Chef Presents the Taste of Malaysia

Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian has invited a Malaysian chef to prepare traditional and authentic Malaysian cuisine at i Café from 21 to 31 August 2015.  During this period, guests can enjoy Teh Tarik with Malaysian dishes and have the opportunity to win a return flight to Kuala Lumpur and accommodation at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

To cook authentic dishes for the Dalian food gourmet, the Malaysian chefs will bring with them many traditional Malaysian ingredients and sauces, including curry, cream of coconut, lemon grass, turmeric, chilli, pepper, citronella, perfume, sambal paste and more.  Beef, chicken, fish and shrimp with coconut will be used to prepare more than 30 kinds of Malaysian dishes, including Laksa, Chicken Curry, Satay, Fish Curry, Enche Kabin (Penang Deep-Fried Five-Spice Chicken) and Penang Fried Koay Teow and many more.

Laksa is the dish most representative of Nyonya food in Malaysia.  In Laksa, rice noodles or oily noodles boiled in hot water are placed on the bottom, followed by boiled bean sprouts with shredded chicken meat and fried eggs.  This is topped with boiled shrimps and laksa sauce, which is a mixture of curry sauce and coconut cream.  Every bite stimulates the appetite, making it unforgettable from the first taste.

Satay is the not only the special kebab of Nanyang, but also one of the most unique traditional foods in Malaysia.  Salted beef, mutton and chicken are baked in moderate heat before serving with tasty satay sauce, which is made of peanut butter, coconut sauces and juvenile prawn.  Satay tastes even better when eaten with traditional Malaysian rice wrapped in coconut or pandan leaves, cucumbers and onions.

Guests can also enjoy Teh Tarik with Malaysian cuisine.  Teh Tarik has been praised as an “Oriental Cappuccino”.  One of the most popular tea drinks in Malaysia, it provides a distinct aftertaste.
