Over 100 Vintage Cars Gather at Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing

Beijing, 7 June 2016 – On 10 June 2016, over 100 antique and classic cars from over 20 countries will gather at Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing.

“Classic”, “precious” and “deluxe” might be the words that come to mind when talking about vintage cars.   A vintage car is a rare sight in daily life, let alone more than 100 of them at the same time.

These cars are here for the 6th Peking to Paris Motor Challenge.  This year’s participation is more overwhelming than ever before with 50 cars dated pre-1942 in the Vintageant class and 60 in the Classic class dated pre-1977.  All eyes will be on the 2013 Classic winner, 84-year-old Gerry Crown, who has competed in all five of the Endurance Rally Association’s revivals of this epic adventure.

It is not the first time that Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing has witnessed such a spectacular.  Organisers have chosen the hotel for the third time as the starting-point crew’s accommodation.  Rows of distinctive vintage cars parked in front of Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing is like an ancient artwork exhibiting their fascinating qualities.

The 6th Peking to Paris Motor Challenge will begin on Sunday, 12 June 2016, as the drivers cross the starting line from the Great Wall with an 8,500-mile rally ahead of them.  Competitors will drive across 11 countries, including Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, Russia and Belarus, before entering Europe to reach the finishing line in the centre of Paris on 17 July 2016, in commemoration of the first Peking to Paris Rally in 1907.

It is a great honour for Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing to showcase the return of these precious vintage motorcars and a sign of respect for these elderly adventurers.
