Sule Shangri-La, Yangon Brings Yangon to the Asean Stage via “Iconic Inspirations”, A Wedding and Lifestyle Fair

Bringing in talents from the ASEAN region, Sule Shangri-La, Yangon unveiled “Iconic Inspirations”, a wedding and lifestyle fair, in the hotel’s Myanmar Ballroom last 26 and 27 May 2018.

The two-day event was opened by Sule Shangri-La Yangon Area Manager and General Manager Phillip Couvaras together with ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase (AFDS) Founder Hayden Ko, AFDS Founder for Myanmar Brian Jeremiah (also the show’s Creative Director), designer Ma Myint Zu (president of Myanmar’s Fashion Designer Entrepreneur Association) and Immigration Attaché of the Embassy of Malaysia in Yangon Sri Jayanthi Subramaniam.

This year’s wedding fair made history with the staging of Yangon’s first truly international fashion show. Representing their home countries Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, nine designers from the ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase (AFDS) brought to Yangon their wedding and evening couture in two fashions shows. Conceptualised in 2015 by Singaporean fashion designer Hayden Ng, AFDS was created to help raise awareness and appreciation for the fashion industry in the ASEAN region.

Wedding couples, corporate and business associates, media friends and Yangon’s fashion set braved the afternoon rains to catch the shows in the hotel’s Myanmar Ballroom. Ambassadors of the ASEAN countries and their representatives came to proudly witness their respective designers, joining them on stage at the end of the show.

Four AFDS model ambassadors from Laos walked the runway with Myanmar’s Carrie Models: Por Takarn, Elizabeth Wanmai, Pitadar Lingling Inthavong (LingLing) and Ms. World Laos Jennie.

The event also paved the way for three of Myanmar’s fashion designers to be welcomed as the country’s ambassadors to the AFDS. Ma Myint Zhu, Charlotte Barjou and Mogok Pauk Pauk proudly shared the centre stage to represent the host country, Myanmar.

While day two focused on the AFDS designers, day one of Iconic Inspirations celebrated local artistry with the wedding collections of much-loved designers Ma Myint Zhu, Charlotte Barjou, Mogok Pauk Pauk and Latt Latt.

The storied halls of the Myanmar Ballroom have stood witness to over 20 years of wedding celebrations in the city. The hotel is famed for its excellent location, irresistible cuisine and impeccable service that truly comes from the heart. With a dedicated team that works with couples for a relax reception, Sule Shangri-La, Yangon has long been the wedding venue for discerning couples.

This year’s wedding couples for Iconic Inspirations enjoyed savings of 10 per cent on the hotel’s signature wedding reception packages. Several partners also gave away prizes for the lucky couples: a Sein Nandaw wedding band worth US$1,000, wedding gowns and wedding gown rentals from the featured local designers and a wedding floral package from Eternal Flowers. Honeymoon stays at selected Shangri-La destinations were also raffled off, with the lucky couple winning three nights’ accommodation at the iconic Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, bundled with roundtrip tickets (between Yangon and Hong Kong) from Cathay Dragon.

The affair had for its main collaborators some of the city’s respected wedding specialists: Brian Jeremiah of Plan B, Eternal Flowers (official partner for floral and creative design), Kingsman Photo Club (official partner for photography), Linn Linn (official make-up artist), Carrie Models International, stylists Casey and Randy, and media partner Shwe Than Lwin Media Co., Ltd.

Other partners were LT Pro Professional Make-up, Beauté (Tinoq + Dylan), IMP International, Cathay Dragon, Bottega and Sein Nandaw Fine Jewelry.
