Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei, Unveils Refurbished Guestrooms and New Room Type

Taipei, 23 April 2014 – Well-known for its genuine hospitality from the heart with very strong brand recognition in the market, Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei recently completed the first phase of a NT$ 1.5 billion (approximately US$ 50 million) upgrade of its 420 guestrooms, lobby and driveway, as well as two food and beverage outlets. The 240 guestrooms and corridors from floors 9 to 23 saw their first major refurbishment with clean, modernized designs that decorated and furnished the space with soft-toned, harmonious colors. Every room features spectacular city views of Taipei or the surrounding mountains and the ceiling height of over three meters create additional spaciousness. With Eastern and Western concepts combined into a sophisticated and elegant setting, guests can experience a renewed sense of luxury and comfort.
In addition, to meet guests’ business and entertainment needs, all rooms and suites have been equipped with the latest technology and facilities, such as complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions with an HDMI device for connecting with personal laptops and many more.

With its experience in handling and hosting many conventions for industries, such as banking, and providing a large number of one-on-one meeting spaces, the hotel designed the new rooms based on the concept, as before, of avoiding having fixed furniture. This flexibility allows converting guestrooms into seminar rooms for multi-purpose use upon request.

The upgraded room types include the Superior Room, Deluxe Room, Executive Room, Plaza Suite and a new luxurious category, Premier Room. The majority of the rooms have window-side sitting areas to create a homey relaxation space.

Deluxe Rooms are sophisticatedly designed and have a size of 40 square meters. The spacious room has an adjustable 40-inch LCD flat screen television. In the marble bathroom, guests can find a 17-inch LCD flat screen, a bathtub and a separate glass-enclosed shower. Elegant and brightly lit with natural daylight, the Executive Rooms feature a spacious sitting area with a coach and coffee table, as well as one set of window-side rotatable sofa chairs that allows guests to enjoy the in-room private views. The doors open to a foyer that provides additional privacy. The room size is 57 square meters.

The new room type, the Premier Room, features a walk-through large closet that connects the room and bathroom, which would perfectly suit long-staying guests or family travelers. With three windows in the room itself and one large window in the bathroom, it offers a panoramic view of the city with Taipei 101 or the surrounding mountains. In addition to a sitting area and the set of window-side sofa chairs and coffee table, the room also comes with an ottoman sofa to provide guests added comfort. The room size is 58 square meters.

The Plaza Suite offers luxurious comfort with its spacious design. The one bedroom suite contains a separate, bright living room and dining area, as well as a separate restroom. The living area is equipped with Bose surround sound stereo and a Blu-ray disc player, while the mini bar offers a personal Nespresso coffee machine. In the extensive marble bathroom with a bathtub and a separate shower cubicle are two sinks and automatic motion-sensor washlet. Through exclusive Horizon Club privileges, Plaza Suite guests are offered personalized services and access to the private Horizon lounge on the 36th floor, where they can enjoy a sumptuous breakfast, complimentary coffee, tea and soft drinks throughout the day, as well as canapés and cocktails in the evenings.

The appointed design team from AB Concept, a multiple award-winning Hong Kong-based company established in 1999, manages the interior design of all guestrooms. The company specializes in high-end hospitality projects worldwide. It expresses luxury by sculpting a flawless match of form and function, carefully balancing the use of quality materials and skillfully using light and space to communicate a sense of comfort.

In 2010, AB Concept managed the interior design of Cantonese restaurant Shang Palace and Li Bai Lounge on the sixth floor of the hotel. It has won numerous international design awards, including the 29th Annual Gold Key Award in 2009 and the lobby design for the hotel’s sister property in southern Taiwan, Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan.

The remaining 180 guestrooms, including the Presidential Suite on the 37th floor, as well as the Horizon Club Lounge, the lobby and driveway, Lobby Court and The Cake Shop on the ground floor, will undergo refurbishment beginning late April 2014 with an estimated completion time of January 2015.
