Golden Sands Resort, Penang Funds Two New Limbs

Golden Sands Resort, Penang recently funded new prosthetic limbs for two children, under the resort’s “EMBRACE Gift of Limb” programme. Syakir bin Shahardi, aged 14, and Khamalashinie Subramaniam, aged 8 were the recipients of a brand new limb each, at a handover ceremony at Golden Sands Resort recently.

Syakir, from Butterworth, is being fitted with a prosthetic limb for the first time. Khamalashinie was born with a missing fibula on her right leg. She was fitted with a prosthetic limb in 2012 which was also sponsored by Golden Sands Resort, but has since outgrown it.

Keith Tomkies, the resort’s General Manager, presented the new limbs worth RM6,210 each, to the children. Present were the resort’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Elizabeth Liew, the resort’s Director of Communications, Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman and representatives from the Teh Lin Prosthetic & Orthopedic Company.

“These are the fifth and sixth recipients we have gifted a limb to since 2012,” said Keith Tomkies, resort General Manager. “We hope to identify more young people to help in future to enable them to lead more productive lives.”
