Shangri-La Hotel, the Marina, Cairns Announces the Transformation Of North Bar and Kitchen

Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns, announces plans to close North Bar & Kitchen on the 20th of August. The venue will reopen as a waterfront bar serving sensational food inspired by award winning Chef Aaron Habgood’s creative flare. The new venue will bring to Cairns a distinct local North Queensland personality, focusing on a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere. Share style menu for lunch and dinner will compliment and inspire engagement with the crowd. The introduction of an outdoor bar will provide Cairns locals and visitors alike with a unique outdoor experience year round.

The transformations will include the entire premises. Beginning with the garden area and continuing to the waterfront deck and bar. The complete rebuild of the kitchen and the introduction of an Espresso Bar. The new premises is planned to reopen at the end of November under a new name and completely new style.

The new concept embraces our casual Cairns lifestyle and our Australian way of life; Family, friends, food, drinks, laughter and fun. The vibrant and relaxed atmosphere encourages friends to gather in al fresco surrounds. Everyone can mingle while enjoying refreshing, innovative drinks and outstanding creative dishes – share style, ordered at the central counter.

We look forward to opening our doors to locals, visitors, family and friends and taking you on a journey into an experience that will lead you from our front door, through our home to our backyard and welcome you to our neighbourhood. Energetic and laid back during the afternoon – upbeat tempo and lively at night time.

“We are calling all locals to help us celebrate the unveiling of the new venue. Share your photos and/or memorable experiences that you have had at North, or when the restaurant was Tides or Bá8 – who remembers it being called Al Fresco in the 90’s? We will share each entry online. The entry with a high number of likes compared to the others will receive a $100 dining voucher for use in the new venue; in addition we will also offer a night’s stay in our Royal Suite – the only place where royalty stay! Of course everyone who enters will also receive an exclusive invitation to the opening.” – said Ms Blain, Director of Sales and Marketing.

“It is very exciting times for our property as we near the completion of the first phase of our guest room transformations as well.” – said Ms Blain.

The entire renovation has been planned so that there is minimal disruption to guests staying at the property.
