A pioneer in sustainability, it became the first hotel in Asia-Pacific to be certified to ISO 14001 in 1997 and remains its longest accredited awardee in the region. This enduring commitment, now formalised through our Triple S sustainability framework and further assured by ISO 45001 and ISO 22000, seamlessly integrates refined hospitality with responsible operations.

At Island Shangri-La, we create memorable family moments that are both playful and enriching. Our Family Experience suites blend imaginative themes with opportunities to explore history, culture and nature through play. Children can discover Hong Kong's heritage in our tram-themed room, visit a fisherman’s cove, or set off on safari and underwater adventures, while our Pantry provides materials and amenities tailored to young guests’ needs. Each space is carefully curated to stimulate young minds and help families relax, connect and create lasting memories together.
Through our Rooted in Nature initiative, we partner with a local fish farm to bring fresh, sustainable seafood to the table, reducing food miles and supporting our community. We complete this cycle with an on-site ORCA machine that turns food waste into an eco-safe liquid, further reducing our environmental impact.

We celebrate Asian culture and empower our community to shine. Our atrium features The Great Motherland of China, a 50-metre silk mural crafted in 1991 by 40 artists from Beijing. Depicting China’s landscapes through traditional art forms, it offers guests a striking, large-scale expression of cultural heritage.
Our commitment extends into the community through our Embrace project, which focuses on underprivileged children. Since 2009, we have worked with the Hong Kong Heep Hong Society to support children with special needs. Through annual initiatives such as the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, fundraising campaigns and volunteer activities, we aim to create lasting impact. In 2023, we expanded this effort with Yan Chai Hospital, benefiting over 300 children with disabilities and their families and helping to build a more inclusive society.

Island Shangri-La is dedicated to more sustainable stays by eliminating single-use plastics. An in-house bottling plant and in-room taps supply filtered water, while large-format amenities and bamboo-based items further reduce waste. The hotel also embraces circularity by recycling uniforms, linens and towels – a programme that saves approximately 7,100 kg CO2e annually, roughly the carbon absorbed by 284 trees.
Together, these initiatives ensure that every stay contributes to a meaningful reduction in waste, allowing guests to enjoy their visit with a lighter environmental footprint.
