SHANGRI-LA’S FAR EASTERN PLAZA HOTEL, TAINAN INVITES AWARD-WINNING SWEET CREATOR AND “PUNK PRINCESS OF PASTRY” ANNA POLYVIOU FOR SUMMER SWEET TREATS BEYOND THE IMAGINATION

Tainan, Taiwan, August 1, 2016 – Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan has invited the well-known award-winning executive pastry chef from Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, “Punk Princess of Pastry” Anna Polyviou, to present her signature creations – including her most well-known Carrot Cake, Anna’s Mess and other delicious concoctions – for a sweet pop-up summer in Tainan from August 1 to 10.

The hotel will launch various activities during Chef Polyviou’s visit.  The Shop (1F) will offer her signature cakes, including the “2014 Dish of the Year Best Dessert” (Carrot Cake), at NT$1,480 for a large cake and NT$200 for a small cake for a limited time.  Lobby Lounge (1F) will provide a special Punk Afternoon Tea at NT$880 plus 10 percent per person and NT$13,800 plus 10 percent for two.  In addition, Café at Far Eastern (10F) will present Anna’s POP-OUT Dessert.

Guests can meet Chef Polyviou in person and have some sweet fun with her signature Anna’s Mess at “Anna’s POP-OUT Show” on August 2.  The show is priced at NT$1,180 plus 10 percent per person.  It is already fully booked, just two days after its promotion.  For reservations or more details, please call (886 6) 702 8856.
Chef Anna, known as “the punk princess of the pastry kitchen” and guest judge of MasterChef Australia, exudes a wicked fun drive, sports a bleached-blond Mohawk, colorful G-Shock watches and exaggerated body piercing and is known for her love for breaking the rules in her world-class confectionary.  The award-winning pastry chef walked into Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney three years ago, transformed the pastry team and is now a driving force behind the revolution of patisserie at fine hotels around Australia.

Her kitchen journey began at Sofitel in Melbourne, where she won Les Toques Blanc’s “Best Apprentice in Victoria” award, taking her to Claridge’s in London.  There, she learnt to make the world’s most classic English high teas, a skill she adapted to her more-contemporary hotel setting in Australia.

Eat After You Mess Up – Anna’s Mess
Anna’s Mess – Appearing as a beautiful chocolate globe garnished with fresh strawberry, raspberry, baby basil and graffiti chocolate chips, Anna’s Mess is just too beautiful to dig into.  The beautiful appearance is also deceiving; it is hard to imagine it takes 75 steps to complete an Anna’s Mess, which is considered one of the most complicated sweets to create.  It is all about sophistication and details, and, of course, a refined taste when it is savored.

“The only way to enjoy Anna’s Mess is to create a mess,” Chef Polyviou said.

The treat must be smashed by lifting the sphere and dropping the whole thing, creating a tasty mess to be savored.

Chef Polyviou creates sweets just like her distinct style and personality – fun, innovative and beyond imagination – that’s why she is known as the “Punk Princess of Pastry.”

Her sweets are never predictable, as she brings the energy and vibes of the street culture and music into the pastry world, delivering colorful desserts that exceed people’s expectation of what hotel pastry should be.  This creativity and passion toward her work have won her awards.
