Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan Presents Fine Rice Dumpling Hampers for Dragon Boat Festival


Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan presents three types of selected rice dumpling hampers to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on June 2. Orders placed starting today until May 25, 2014 will receive a 10 percent discount, in addition to favorable prices given to bulk orders.

Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan’s new delicate rice dumplings include Pork Belly and Preserved Vegetable Rice Dumpling, Abalone and Black Truffle Rice Dumpling and a limited offer of Grain-Fed Australian Beef Rice Dumpling. Two alternatives – Chinese Toona and Mushroom Vegetarian Rice Dumpling and Taro, Longan Sweet Rice Dumpling – are also available for vegetarians and sweets lovers.

Ken Hsu, chef of the hotel’s Chinese restaurant Shanghai Pavilion, said Australian beef is used in the Grain-Fed Australian Beef Rice Dumpling to make this traditional Chinese rice delicacy even more tender and juicy. This year, the hotel offers only 300 beef rice dumplings at NT$268 each.

The idea of Chef Hsu’s second rice dumpling comes from Shanghai Pavilion’s signature dish – Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables – to make this innovative rice delicacy melt in the mouth. Chef Hsu’s third special rice dumpling of Chili Abalone goes well with the sophisticated flavor of black truffle.

The high-fiber, vegetarian Chinese Toona and Mushroom Rice Dumpling is filled with four kinds of mushrooms with the distinguishable herb fragrance of Chinese toona. The herb is a popular seasoning ingredient among Chinese vegetarians.

Chef Hsu further modernizes this year’s traditional rice dumpling with Taro, Longan Sweet Rice Dumpling. The Chinese have been using red bean paste as filling for this sweet rice dumpling for many centuries. Chef Hsu uses taro zongzi made of steamed taro paste, chopped taro and dried longans.

The hotel presents three rice dumpling hampers as ideal gifts: Classic Rice Dumpling Hamper, Premium Rice Dumpling Hamper and Vegetarian Rice Dumpling Hamper. The Classic Rice Dumpling Hamper has one Pork Belly and Preserved Vegetable Rice Dumpling, one Abalone and Black Truffle Rice Dumpling, one Chinese Toona and Mushroom Vegetarian Rice Dumpling and two Taro and Longan Sweet Rice Dumplings for NT$788. The Premium Rice Dumpling Hamper includes each of the four flavors, plus a bottle of special XO sauce for NT$988. The Vegetarian Rice Dumpling Hamper (three Chinese Toona and Mushroom Vegetarian Rice Dumplings and two Taro, Longan Sweet Rice Dumplings) costs NT$788.

Apart from the sumptuous food inside, the hampers retain heat well and are trendy and environmentally friendly and designed for reuse, said Erich Kaiserseder, general manager of Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan.

Kaiserseder added that the hotel will continue its charity offer of presenting one classic rice dumpling hamper to the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in Tainan whenever customers order a classic rice dumpling hamper as a festival gift to the foundation. The hotel has been supporting the foundation all these years.

The festival hampers and limited offer of beef rice dumpling are available from May 12 to June 2, 2014. Reservations must be made three days prior to collection.
