Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Sponsors Second Cochlear Implant Surgery And Initiates Easter Charity Activity

Mr. Jobst Herr, Executive Assistant Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou, along with the management team, went to Jiayue Early Childhood Intervention Center to witness the successful activation of Li Wenyang’s artificial cochlear implant moment on 25 Feb 2016.  

Li completed his cochlear implant operation at University of Suzhou-affiliated Children’s Hospital on 17 January 2016.  Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou covered all operation costs, including that of the artificial cochlear, the preoperative examination fee and hospitalisation costs, using funds raised through the “Hearing the World” charity campaign.  

The post-operative recovery lasted nearly one month before Li finally witnessed the activation moment of the cochlear system.  After the hearing test and device adjustment, Li was able to hear clearly with a smile on his face, which cheered up everyone on the spot.  Hewill get familiar with the abilityto hear and speak with more practice very soon.  

To continue helping more hearing-impaired children from less privileged families in 2016, the hotel initiates an Easter Charity Activity.  From 1 to 27 March 2016, guests can experience a traditional Easter activity by buyingplastic eggs (minimum donation of RMB5 per egg), paint and hang them on anenormous Easter tree located atthe lobby area while dining at Café Soo.  The target for this activity is RMB10,000, which will be contributed to our “2016 Hearing the World” charity campaign fund.  

Initiated in 2014, the charity campaign “Hearing the World” raised attention in the society by sponsoring the cochlear implant surgery for a little girl named Chen Siyi.  The success of Li Wenyang’s operation once again proves the campaign is a meaningful one.    

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou’s Embrace programme along with its partner “Jiayue” helps to improve young children’s hearing and speaking abilities, especially those with hearing disabilities.
