SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, SUZHOU PRESENTS MID-AUTUMN MOONCAKES

Suzhou, China, 13 July 2016 – To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou presents a range of mooncakes and hampers from 15 July until 15 September 2016.

This year, the hotel features mooncakes with Suzhou flavours, particularly the Suzhou-Style mooncake filled with pork.  Speaking from the classification, mooncakes are mainly divided into Cantonese and Suzhou styles, which are known for their light, flaky wrap and delicious meat fillings.

Sung Dynasty (960-1279) poet Su Dongpo penned an ode to the confection: xiao bing ru jue yue, zhong you su he yi, meaning, “a small cake resembling the moon stuffed with a sweet filling”.  It refers to the characteristics of the Suzhou-style mooncake – crisp and delicious – with a stuffing entirely made up of meat, a somewhat-tough, crispy skin and rich gravy slowly filled in.

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou also provides a variety of hampers and gift boxes to meet the guests’ different requirements, including mooncake selection of Su, Zi, Xiu, Yun, Hua, Jun and Jin, Memory “Su” Hamper, Festive Hamper, Prosperity Hamper, Sea Cumber Hamper and Deluxe Sea Cucumber Hamper, starting from only RMB138.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important Chinese festivals.  We offer traditional Suzhou-flavoured mooncakes with a sweet and warm taste, making them the ideal gifts to celebrate this ‘reunion’ moment and to deliver wishes to families, friends and business associates,” said Oscar Gao, Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou’s General Manager.

The mooncakes can be purchased from 15 July to 15 September 2016 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily in the hotel lobby.  For more information or for reservations, please call (86 512) 6808 0168 extension 6488.
