Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Launches 'Hearing The World' Charity Campaign To Help Two Kids In 2016

After successfully sponsoring the first cochlear implant surgery for seven-year-old Chen Siyi last Christmas, Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou continues the “Hearing the World” campaign with the aim to raise funds to provide two children the ability to hear this Christmas. 

The fund will be used to purchase cochlear implants and pay for their surgery, which costs about RMB130,000 per child.  Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou invites all guests to support via our Christmas CSR (Corporate Society Responsibility)activity this year. 

This Christmas our charity campaign focuses on helping Li Wenyang and Chu Shanwei.  Li Wenyang is a six-year-old boy from Heze, Shandong Province,he is undergoing rehabilitation at Suzhou Jiayue Early Childhood Intervention Centre (Jiayue).  Li’s younger sister is studying at Yinghua Primary School with a tuition fee of RMB2,000 per term while Li’s rehabilitation costs RMB2,650 per month.  The whole family relies on Li’s father, whose monthly salary is RMB5,000 to cover the fees and other living expenses.  Li has been at Jiayue for three years, yet his hearing ability has not been improved and it can only be improved via a cochlear implant. 

Chu Shanwei is a four-year-old boy from Nantong, Jiangsu.  Chu and his younger sister suffered congenital hearing loss from birth.Chu undergoes rehabilitation at Jiayue which costs RMB2,650 per month.  His family lives in a one bedroom with two chairs and one table.  His father takes care of the whole family with a monthly income of RMB4,000. 

Last Christmas, Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou initiated “Hear the World” CSR project to help Chen Siyi, which achieved great support from our customers and guests.  The project raised RMB200,000, which was used for Chen’s cochlear implant surgery.  The balance of the fund collected was kept as the goal this Christmas is to give two children the gift of hearing. 

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Embrace programme partnership with Jiayue and the objective is to assist and help improve young children’s hearing and speaking abilities, especially children with hearing this ability. 

The hotel organises volunteers consisting of staff members to visit Jiayue monthly to help children with language training and communication.  On special occasionssuch as New Year’s Day, Ear Caring Day, Children’s Day, in Mid-Autumn Festival and Christmas, Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou invites the children into the hotel or organises a festive celebration at Jiayue.  Hotel staff also help with the centre’s rehabilitation evaluation test for graduating children who were able to pass the entry test for normal primary school. 

From September to December 2014, the hotel donated RMB1,000 every month per child towards 10 children’s tuition to help lighten financial pressure off  less privileged families.  In 2015, the hotel has donated a total of RMB 40,000 to assist.
