Shang Palace celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with three new snow-skin mooncakes infused with premium jasmine, oolong and 18-year-old pu-erh tea. Shang Palace’s mooncakes are available for sale between 28 July and 8 September 2014 at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore and in selected shopping malls. An early bird discount of 25 per cent is available before 7 August 2014 for purchases above 10 boxes.
With a tale to tell, each mooncake nourishes the body and mind. The new collection comprises poetic creations, such as Mini Snow-Skin Snowy Flake Mooncake (Jasmine Tea), Mini Snow-Skin Phoenix Supreme Mooncake (Oolong Tea) and Mini Snow-Skin Imperial Consort Mooncake (18-year-old Pu-erh Tea). Each mooncake is filled with smooth lotus seed paste with a refreshing tea jelly centre encased with chocolate.
Fans of the baked variety will enjoy the innovative Mini Baked Passion Fruit Mooncake. All mooncakes are presented in carefully-selected and customised satin boxes with elegant Chinese embroidery, available exclusively in Singapore.
Mini Snow-Skin Snowy Flake Mooncake (Jasmine Tea) is infused with premium jasmine tea leaves from the high mountains of Sichuan province. Due to the altitude, the tea shrubs are often covered in snow; hence, the name of this tea. The tea leaves are harvested in spring to retain their delicate nature and rich aroma. The sweet and fragrant aroma is known to relax and revive the body and mind.
The Snowy Flake Mooncake evokes the same feelings as Li Bai’s Tang poem – “A Quiet Night Thought”, which uses vivid moonlight and frost imagery to convey the feeling of homesickness.
The second tea-infused creation is the Mini Snow-Skin Phoenix Supreme Mooncake (Oolong Tea). As represented by the mythical phoenix, this mooncake is a symbol of high virtue and grace, as well as the union of yin and yang. In traditional Chinese medicine, the harmonious balance of elements is important for treating ailments and restoring the body’s healthy function. Painstakingly handpicked from the famous Wu Dong peak of the Phoenix Mountain in Guangdong province, oolong tea leaves give the mooncake a sweet fruity flavour. Oolong is believed to relax the mind and lower cholesterol and other fatty acids. The Phoenix Supreme Mooncake tells the tale of how the phoenix represents the power and crowning glory sent from the heavens to the empress. It only stays when the ruler is without darkness and corruption.
The third mooncake in the tea collection is Mini Snow-Skin Imperial Consort Mooncake (18-year-old Pu-erh Tea) infused with carefully hand-harvested pu-erh tea leaves from Yunnan, China, which are prized and collected by many tea connoisseurs around the world. The tea leaves are naturally aged in dry storage for 18 years, resulting in a complex and earthy flavour in each mooncake. This tea contains high levels of antioxidants and is known to lower cholesterol and help weight loss. The careful selection of the pu-erh tea leaves is akin to the story of a beautiful young maiden who was chosen to be an emperor’s consort and how she used her wit and charm to alleviate the unrests within the palace.
