Michelin-Starred chef presents a Gala Dinner at Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao

 Qingdao, China, 9 April 2016 – On 9 April 2016, venerated Austrian Michelin-starred Chef Stefan Lenz joined forces with Executive Chef Rolando Manesco and Chef Gao De Liang from Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao and Executive Pastry Chef Beat Loeffel from Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai to present an inspired Gala Dinner in the China Hall of Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao.

The exclusive six-course dinner night featured artfully created dishes with bold international flavours combined with culinary craftsmanship and wine expertise.  The menu has been beautifully paired with quality wines curated by Shangri-La Hotel Group’s Chief sommelier.

Chef Lenz, the head chef of the Gala Dinner and now the chef de cuisine at the Relais & Chateaux Hotel Tennerhof, was awarded “Chef of the Year” in October 2015.  He has been to Australia, the United States and other high-class restaurants in Austria before.  Chef Lenz’s unique and flamboyant Tartare of Australian Beef Tenderloin, Quail Egg and Watercress and Fillet of Cod with Star Anise, Saffron and Wild Herbs showcased his eclectic “Best in Class” gastronomy.

Meanwhile, Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao’s Italian Chef Manesco, who has 30 years of international culinary experience gained from various corners of the world, presented Scallop Salad with Asparagus Mascarpone Cheese Mousse, Asparagus Caulis and Fresh Herbs and Pan-Roasted Rack of Lamb with Rooted in Nature Truffle Mashed Potato, along with his sophisticated Western-style cuisine .

Chef Gao, a specialist in Huaiyang, Sichuan, Cantonese and Southeast Asian cuisines, presented his eight-hour double-boiled superior soup, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, which consisted of high-quality ingredients, such as abalone, fish maw, dried scallops, sea cucumber, ham and so on.

Executive Pastry Chef Loeffel comes from Switzerland.  In his career spanning over 30 years, he has worked in several countries like Mexico, Australia, Turkey, India and the United Arab Emirates.  His creation Almond Chocolate Cake with Kirsch Vanilla Cream and Cherry Compote has won high praise among diners.
