On 23 March 2013, China World Summit Wing, Beijing will turn off the façade lights of Beijing’s tallest skyscraper during Earth Hour from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m. During this hour, the hotel will be organising a four-course ‘blind’ dinner experience held in China Ballroom, located in the basement of the hotel. Proceeds from the sale of the tickets to this ‘blind’ dinner experience will go to a visually-impaired charity organisation, Bethel, the only China-based organisation which supports the visually-impaired Chinese orphan population.
In order to raise awareness about the need to take action on global climate change, China World Summit Wing, Beijing will turn off the façade lights on the 330-metre tall building. As part of our Social Corporate Responsibility on energy and water conservation, energy-saving lamps are installed in the public areas and the faucets in the heart-of-the-house areas are fitted with water-saving devices. Posters on water and energy conservation are also located near light switches and water taps to remind colleagues to turn them off when not in use.
During this hour, China World Summit Wing, Beijing will hold a ‘blind’ dinner culinary journey in China Ballroom, located at basement one of the hotel. A four-course gastronomic menu will be presented to diners in total darkness, giving diners first-hand experience on losing their visual sensory and relying on the other four senses to heighten their dining experience. Mobile phones and other light-emitting devices will not be permitted in the ballroom. Proceeds from the sale of the tickets to this ‘blind’ dinner experience will go to Bethel, a China-based non-profit organisation that supports and care for visually-impaired Chinese orphans in the country. With children as young as five months, they receive care from volunteers and basic needs such as clothes and food. The older children are educated on life skills so that they may live independently and contribute positively to society.
Tickets are priced at RMB 1,588 per person plus 15 per cent service charge inclusive of a four-course set dinner menu and wine pairing. Prior reservation is required.
