Hua Ao school is attended by students from low-income migrant families. The students' tuition is supported by Kerry Guok Kuok Foundation to ensure they complete junior high school and pursue their education further.
The hotel organises a charity bazaar twice a year to raise funds for the 'Big Friends Project. The money raised has supported renovation projects for the school's sport facilities. In May 2013, the school received revamped basketball courts and new table tennis tables and equipment.
Furthermore, to ready the children for their future career prospects, the hotel conducts student workshops on interview skills and resume writing. These workshops have given the students more self-confidence and they now know what to expect when they apply for jobs in the future.
On 3 August 2013, China World Summit Wing, Beijing hosted the first-ever vertical run in China in association with the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF). World-renowned stair climbers, athletes, celebrities and members of the public competed to reach the top of the hotel, the tallest rooftop in Beijing. The event drew more than 500 participants and all proceeds raised went to the Chinese Rural Kids Care charitable organisation.
