Makati Shangri-La, Manila joined the Lights Out to Mark Earth Hour

Makati Shangri-La, Manila joined the world in its stand against climate change by turning off most of its non-essential lights in key and public areas from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during Earth Hour last Saturday, March 19, 2016.

Hotel guests were advised with personalized letters on the importance of this annual campaign and were encouraged to participate by switching off the lights in their rooms and join a special candlelit cocktail with a string quartet at the patio garden on the third floor.

Most of the food ingredients in Circles Event Café dinner buffet were locally sourced and transportation of certain food products were avoided in order to reduce carbon footprints. Guests enjoyed dinner by candlelight in all of the hotel’s dining restaurants.  The hotel saved 1,693,370 Watt-hour of electricity during the one hour shut down.

The hotel’s participation in Earth Hour reinforces the awareness of climate change and corporate social responsibility activities as part of its ongoing environmental efforts.
