Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu Holds Traditional Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Mr. Zupanski is lighting the Christmas Tree

The Christmas spirit filled Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu’s lobby during the recent traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony, which was enjoyed by in-house guests and resort staff.

The ceremony started with a three-piece strolling performance followed by Christmas carols performed by the resort’s very own carollers, and culminated in the lighting of the tree by the resort’s general manager, Randy Zupanski.

The 20-foot-tall Christmas tree, which prominently stands in the resort’s main lobby at the Garden Wing, is made from dried twigs and branches and took three nights to set up. The tree is decorated with the state’s iconic stuffed toy, the orang-utan and other indigenous materials that are widely available in Sabah, such as sepak takraw balls (woven rattan balls), abaca rope balls, buri fans and paddy straws to add authentic local touches.

From 22 December 2012 until 1 January 2013, the management of Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu has arranged a myriad of family oriented activities for its guests to enjoy during this festive period, such as treasure hunting with an elf, scavenger hunting, children’s Christmas carols, a mini puzzle challenge and a traditional Sabahan games challenge. The highlight of the activities is an appearance by Santa to deliver presents to the children.

To celebrate the festive season, special menus and dishes will be introduced in all of the resort’s restaurants, from its buffet counters to set and à la carte orders. Prices range from RM170 net to RM 350 net per person on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
