Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot Hosts The Tibet Food Festival

Huhhot, China, 27 February 2015 – Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot will present the Tibet Food Festival, a gastronomic journey from the Tibetan Plateau prepared by guest chefs from Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa for Qing Cheng City residents at Shang Palace from 12 to 25 March 2015.  Guests can experience the unique and splendid Tibetan food culture and enjoy the real natural flavours of Tibetan cuisine this spring.

Tibet, known as the “roof of the world”, is famous for its unmatched beauty and ancient history.  On the special and amazing Tibet Plateau, Tibetan people created the extraordinary Tibetan food that has become world famous for its variety and nutritive value.  Tibetan cuisine features a natural cooking skill and a healthy and fresh ingredients that will surprise palates.  The region’s unsophisticated folk customs and natural beauty can all be seen in its delectable dishes.

The representative Tibetan dishes include Clutching Mutton and Beef, Zanba, Buttered Tea, Highland Barley Wine and many more.  Tibetan cuisine is usually light in flavour.  Its ingredients are mainly beef, mutton, pork, chicken, potato and so on.  Rice, flour and highland barley are staples.  Dishes are usually cooked by roasting, frying and boiling; a majority of Tibetans use only salt, green onion, garlic and a bit of local spices as seasoning to enrich the flavour of the dishes.

Some of the dishes to be presented during the Tibet Food Festival are Steamed Treasure Rice Pudding with Date, Nuts and Red Bean, Boiled Lamb with Spicy Tibetan Sauce, Yak Salad, Ginseng Thick Soup, Roasted Beef with Mushed Potato, Masala Chicken, etc. Diners may revel in an authentic Tibetan delicacies without making the long journey at Shang Palace.
