Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot Holds "Warming Green City With Love" Christmas Tree Lighting Charity Ceremony

Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot will hold its “Warming Green City with Love” Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on 3 December 2012, and it will continue its Christmas charity drive throughout the festive season.  There will be Christmas trees on sale for charity with each tree sold at Rmb500, and all proceeds minus the cost will be donated to the needy of Huhhot Children’s Welfare House.

Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot is the first international luxury five-star hotel in the city.  Since its opening five years, the hotel has undertaken a series of charity events, showing its dedication on Corporate Social Responsibility.  With the aim to help and spread love and warmth among the less fortunate, the hotel entered a 15-year relationship with Huhhot Children’s Welfare House in 2008 and established the Shangri-La Home in September 2010.  At Shangri-La Home, five full-time nursing staff carefully nurse orphans and disabled babies aged up to three years old.  The hotel also encourages guests and staff to be involved in the volunteer programme.

This Christmas, the hotel will be decorated for the festive season, with a large, shining Christmas tree in the lobby and several small meaningful charity trees around.  Guests are invited to join hands with the Hotel in its “Warming Green City with Love” charity event, to share love with more people.  In the event, all the small trees as well as its representative Bulb of Love will be lit, accompanied with Christmas Carols from our choir.  The main tree will be lit by Mr. Victor Ng, hotel general manager and four dedicators.

Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity.  It is traditionally celebrated on 25 December by most Western Christian churches and recognized as being a time of giving.  Aspects of the celebration may include the giving of gifts, Christmas trees, the display of Nativity sets, church attendance, the myth of Father Christmas/Santa Claus, and family gatherings.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts remains committed to operating in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible manner whilst balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders. In striving to be a leader in corporate citizenship and sustainable development, a corporate-level CSR Committee drives the company’s initiatives in the strategic areas of stakeholder relations, environment, health and safety, supply chain and employees. These focus areas are unified under the umbrella brand of “Sustainability”, together with  Shangri-La’s core CSR projects “Embrace” and “Sanctuary”.  Hotel-level Embrace programmes focus on Shangri-La’s Caring People Project, which aims to promote the highest level of education and health support in underprivileged communities.  Sanctuary programmes concentrate on Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project, which promotes the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.  For more information, please visit the group’s CSR section on
