Shang Palace Presents Wonderful Hainan Feast

Huhhot, China, 1 September 2014 – This autumn, Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot will present authentic Hainan cuisine from 12 to 30 September 2014. The hotel has invited Chefs Wu Weizhang and Wu Zengshan from Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou to provide diners a culinary exploration of well-known Hainan delicacies.

Alongside its more celebrated commodities of beaches, rainforest and year-round sunshine, Hainan’s cuisine provides a unique intrigue to an island that differs so much from the mainland. It originated from the cooking styles of the people of Hainan province in China, such as the Li, Miao and Hui minorities, thus forming a local cuisine style with distinct characteristics. The food is lighter, less oily and more mildly seasoned than that of the Chinese mainland. The two ingredients that define a Hainan dish are freshness and flavour.

At this Hainan Food Festival, guests can sample a wide variety of Hainan specialities ranging from cold and hot dishes to different kinds of soup at Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot. Shredded Wenchang Chicken, one of the four most famous dishes in Hainan cuisine, is cooked in a unique style that has gained universal acclaim for the dish’s softness and tenderness. The chicken is bred in a free-range environment and fed a diet of coconut, peanuts and rice bran, all contributing to its distinct flavour and texture. Guests also cannot miss the Braised Dongshan Lamb, in which the distinctive taste of mutton is noticeably absent with every aromatic and non-greasy bite. The yellow meat of Hele Crab has an oily texture and a strong aroma with the whole ointment covering the back, appealing much to the taste buds.
