As the first hotel in Sydney to join the beekeeping movement, the apiary initiative raises awareness of the importance of bees within the ecosystem and Shangri-La Sydney’s commitment to preserve the environment.

The Rocks precinct has proven to be the perfect playground for the Shangri-La bees. The urban colony yields a unique flavour of honey due to the exotic collection of trees and flowers, and the hotel’s vicinity to Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens.

With eight beehives on the hotel’s level three rooftop, the raw honey is naturally harvested and hand-spun without heat treatment.

Partnering with The Urban Beehive, the hotel’s colony of bees average 50 kilograms of honey per year, producing over 350 kilograms.

The hotel-made liquid gold provides patrons with a hive to table experience and the unfiltered honey can be purchased by guests.

Shangri-La Sydney is proud to support Project Youth, a Sydney charity that helps young people who are facing disadvantage.

Project Youth strives to provide aid and assistance to individuals aged 12 – 24 who are impacted by homelessness, mental ill-health, substance dependency, family dysfunction, lack of education, unemployment, involvement in the criminal justice system, abuse, neglect and poverty.

The Education, Employment and Training team re-engage young people with schooling, provide access to potential job opportunities and offer programs which create opportunity for their futures.

Shangri-La Sydney has supported young people through Project Youth since 2017 by providing trainee and employment opportunities as well as mentorship through the Job Readiness program and Hospitality Course.
