Kiulu River is ideal for those without any rafting experience, unlike many other rivers that are suitable for advanced rafting, The river is excellently positioned in Malaysia’s beautiful village, the intimate town of Kiulu.

Island hopping tours can be booked on the spot at the Jesselton Point jetty terminal in Kota Kinabalu. For diving activities, it is advisable to make a prior booking with a dive operator.

This is Malaysia’s second-longest river with a massive length of 560km from its source in the Southwest Sabah (Sandakan) to its outlet at the Sulu Sea, on the East Coast. A total of 26,000 ha (hectar) was gazetted as the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary under the State’s Wildlife Conservation Enactment of 1997.
Although an overnight trip is do-able, a minimum of three days is recommended to stay at the Kinabatangan. A longer stay will yield a better chance to spot this wildlife.

The Rafflesia is one of the rarest and strangest flowers in the world. It is undeniably the largest you can find in the world as it weighs up to 22 pounds and the looks quite alien-like. It is actually a parasite which can be hosted by only one vine in the world. Rafflesia is only found in Sumatra, Java, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and the Philippines. The flower smells like rotting meat near the end of its life cycle to attract flies and other insects. The flower blooms only for three to five days. The chance of seeing one blooming will require some luck and good timing.
The Rafflesia Information Centre is open daily to visitors from 8am to 3pm. Here, visitors can look forward to a jungle trekking adventure to look for the rafflesia flower. It is advisable to wear comfortable trekking shoes in the attempt to trek through the RIC’s challenging terrain.

The market also has a wide variety of carved crafts, including exotic wooden masks, picture frames and stunning wall panels.

Like most tamu (local market), this is the best place to watch the local folks mingle as they do business. Fresh produce is often on display, as well as a variety of unique delicacies such as bambangan (a sour mango-like fruit preserved in jars and often served to complement main meals) and rice wine, known as tapai or lihing. You can find just about anything here, from clothing to livestock - so it's sure to be a shopping experience like no other! It is held every Wednesday from 6am to 2pm.
Every Sunday morning, the whole stretch of Gaya Street is closed off to traffic to make way for the street fair. A must visit market while in KK, you will be fascinated by the various items and goods sold at this fair. From arts and crafts, batik sarongs, footwear, fruits and flowers, local snacks and cakes, antiques and souvenirs, to even pets and herbs, this is the best place to experience the culture and lifestyle of the locals. The street fair starts as early as 6am and ends at 1pm.
