Where care meets purpose, Shangri-La Hambantota leads with sustainability and meaningful community impact.
Wildlife Conservation
Wildlife Conservation

Rescued after falling into a well and separated from her herd, baby elephant El-la now finds sanctuary through our joint partnership with Shangri-La Colombo and the Elephant Transit Home. Together, we support her care, rehabilitation, and eventual return to the wild - protecting Sri Lanka’s gentle giants for generations.

• El-la’s adoption reflects our commitment to conservation and responsible tourism.
• Caring for Ella is a living expression of Shangri-La’s values - sustainability, empathy, and cultural connection - aligned with ‘Do Good’ and care that goes beyond.
• Join us as we honour Sri Lanka’s wildlife and celebrate a journey of hope with Ella.
Waste Management
Waste Management

Through our 18R waste management model, we embrace a holistic approach to sustainability. From reducing, reusing, and recycling to restoring ecosystems and rethinking consumption, every action reflects our promise to protect the environment, support local communities, and nurture a future rooted in care.

• Our 18R model guides everything we do: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle, Recover, Restore, Reintegrate, Replant, Rewild, Recharge, Respect, Re-educate, and Reward.
• These actions minimise waste, regenerate resources, and support local communities, making 18R our blueprint for lasting environmental and social impact.

Guests can engage directly with artisans, explore heritage, and witness how sustainable creativity connects community, culture, and conservation.

• The Village features four traditional huts where local artisans showcase and sell their handcrafted creations.
• In the evenings, it comes alive with cultural performances including Angampora martial arts, music, and dance.
• By fostering this hub, Shangri‑La Hambantota not only preserves heritage but empowers artisans, supports livelihoods, and enriches guest experiences.
