Embrace
Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s annual charity project Embrace the Gift of Life was initiated in 1985 to support children with severe heart ailments and other serious medical conditions. To date, the hotel has raised over RM4 million and support hundreds of critically ill children through this charity project.

 

Embrace The Gift Of Life

For this festive season, we encourage everyone to embrace the gift of life through the Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree campaign to support children with severe heart ailments by purchasing the ornaments with a minimum donation of MYR 1,100 each.

Community Wellbeing
In the month of June, 100 packed lunch sets were distributed to the underprivileged through Kechara Soup Kitchen - a not-for-profit and non-governmental organisation serving marginalized communities in Malaysia for over 14 years.

Pink October
To support breast cancer awareness month and raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Malaysia, mammogram pledge to support women under the B40 groups to get tested, as early detection saves lives.

The hotel contributed 5% from the sales of the Pink Afternoon tea and goodies and full proceeds from Bowerhaus Pink Courage to the cause.

COVID-19 Initiatives
Since the inception of COVID-19, frontliners throughout Malaysia have been working tirelessly to help curb the spread of the virus. To express our gratitude for their sacrifices, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur are contributing the following from July - August 2021:

50 packed lunches weekly to the Dang Wangi Police Station.

  • 100 packed lunches weekly to the team at Lembah Pantai Health Clinic.

World Food Safety Day
Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur celebrated the annual World Food Safety Day on 7 June to draw attention and mobilize action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks and improve human health.

Flood Relief
Together with Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur provided essential items such as clothes, canned food, rice personal care items and more, to those who were affected by the recent floods.

Environment
Over the years, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has actively reduced single-use plastic and adopt ways to reduce its impact on the environment:

  • Reusable non-woven shopping bag are available for sale at Lemon Garden 2Go.
  • All restaurant outlets use biodegradable takeaway packages and cutleries, paper straws and paper cups.
  • For banquet events, glass jars and glassware replaced plastic water bottles.
  • Adopted Econ Burner to keep buffet food warm at Lemon Garden, saving 7.4 tons of carbon emission and prevent 2,668kg of waste in April 2020.
  • The hotel acquires sustainable seafood from suppliers with the following certifications: Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Rashid Al Qubaisi Group (First Quality Certification). This ensures our products are compliant with internationally-recognized standards covering sustainable fishing and seafood traceability.

Health and Safety
Ensuring high standards of health and safety for all stakeholders are a priority for Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. To date, the hotel has received the following quality certifications:

  • Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) "Clean & Safe Malaysia" certification, verified by Bureau Veritas
  • Bureau Veritas SafeGuard Hygiene Excellence and Safety Label 2020
  • ISO 14001 – Environment management System
  • ISO 45001 (previously 18001)- Occupational Safety Management System
  • ISO 22000 – Food Safety Management System
  • OHSAS ISO 18001 - Occupational Health and Safety Management Certification

This allows for the implementation of effective environmental management system, ensure high standards of health and safety are maintained for all stakeholders, and ensure frameworks for food safety systems, hygiene and sanitation standards as well as security and safety initiatives are constantly reviewed by the hotel based on local and global situations.
