Genuine CARE with Heep Hong Society
Heep Hong Society is a local non-profit organisation that is committed to providing professional care, education, training and family support services for children - from babies to students in junior secondary schools - who have developmental and learning problems. Since 2000, the organisation has made great strides in helping children with autism, Asperger's syndrome, ADHD and other specific learning difficulties and special needs.
Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, has been a supportive partner of the organisation since 2009 and held numerous charitable initiatives and periodic activities for the children. Today, 70% of the children are able to enter the “mainstream” educational system after spending a few years at the Heep Hong Society Centre.
Heep Hong Society's 55th Anniversary Charity Dinner
Last 17 April 2018, more than 400 philanthropists and dignitaries attended Heep Hong Society's 55th Anniversary Charity Dinner at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, an annual fundraising occasion for the benefit of the Society's Children and Youth Training Fund, which has disbursed over HKD 10 million since 2013 to offer timely treatment and professional therapy to more than 2,500 children from low-income families.
Throughout the evening, guests savoured dishes prepared by great chefs from 5 restaurants of Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong. More than 20 luxury items were sold for charity at live and silent auctions, including a Cooking Masterclass and Dinner for 8 at Restaurant Petrus, sponsored by Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong. The former Hotel Manager Gonzalo de Silva, together with colleagues, presented a HKD 500,000 cheque to Heep Hong Society, reflecting money raised from recent charity events and sales.
Heep Hong Charity Mooncakes
Charity mooncakes presented in beautiful boxes decorated with drawings created by the Heep Hong Society will be sold at the hotel’s mooncake counter during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The mooncake boxes contained four traditional mooncakes with white lotus seed paste and double egg yolk. All proceeds from the sales will be donated to benefit the Heep Hong Society’s diverse services and facilities.
