Unfolding a Storied Heritage Through Cuisine
Ara Sayegh, Head Chef, Middle Eastern Cuisine, Shangri-La Singapore
Originally from Beirut, Chef Ara Sayegh has accumulated a wealth of experience in Middle Eastern cuisines having worked extensively in the region.
Inspired by his mother who cooked with utmost passion and love, Chef Ara embarked on his journey to become a professional chef at a young age – his first foray into the culinary arts was working alongside his mother who was head chef at a diet centre. There, he picked up his first skills and also honed his attention to detail – everything from ingredients to portions at the centre were meticulously measured and documented.
This stint spurred him on further and prompted him to enrol into a professional culinary school. Chef Ara ’s love for travel then led him to take up several posts at various restaurants across Kuwait, UAE, Armenia, as well as Asia – he thrived on learning about the different cultures and cuisines of the countries he worked at – from ingredients to preparation and methods.
At Shangri-La Singapore, Chef Ara is in charge of Middle Eastern cuisine and helms Safiya, exclusively for takeaway and delivery.
