Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang Participates in Earth Hour: Consume Less, Enjoy More

In response to the call of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), all Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts properties will participate in Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time on 19 March 2016.  The hotels and resorts will turn off lighting in most staff areas and dim the lights in the public areas, restaurants and exterior areas.

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang, as a member of the Shangri-La family, will participate in this year’s Earth Hour with theme of “Consume Less, Enjoy More”.  The hotel also encourages guests to participate by turning off the lights, air conditioning, computers and so on in their rooms during the appointed hour to help build a better future in which people live in harmony with nature and to celebrate their commitment to the planet.

“Protecting the Earth we live in is everyone’s responsibility and daily practice.  It should not be only during Earth Hour.  We also encourage our colleagues to save energy and reduce emissions in our daily work and life to celebrate our commitment to the planet in our own way,” said Raymond Teo, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang’s general manager.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts remains committed to operating in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible manner whilst balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders. In striving to be a leader in corporate citizenship and sustainable development, a corporate-level CSR Committee drives the company’s initiatives in the strategic areas of stakeholder relations, environment, health and safety, supply chain and employees. These focus areas are unified under the umbrella brand of “Sustainability”, together with  Shangri-La’s core CSR projects “Embrace” and “Sanctuary”.  Hotel-level Embrace programmes focus on Shangri-La’s Caring People Project, which aims to promote the highest level of education and health support in underprivileged communities.  Sanctuary programmes concentrate on Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project, which promotes the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.  For more information, please visit the group’s CSR section on
